Dear Mayor Kupsik,
We recently learned that the Wisconsin DNR has extended a grant of $85,000 to the city of Lake Geneva for the purchase of the White River Wetlands on the Hillmoor property, which was purchased last fall by a real-estate development company. Because it is marked private recreation, this property would need to be re-zoned by the city as commercial to allow any development plan. It is essential that both the Lake Geneva City Council & community members around Geneva Lake have a clear understanding of any potential uses and development of this area prior to any and all zoning change.
As a proud member of this community, I am concerned about the future of the White River Wetlands and its repercussions on the wildlife, residents and visitors who value this landmark property. I understand a re-zone would allow unnecessary commercialization on this land, which would inevitably harm the natural habitat that makes the wetlands here so special to the Geneva lake community.
I stand with Care for Lake Geneva in urging the City Council to pursue a responsible plan for Hillmoor’s future that includes the preservation of the White River Wetlands.
C.C. Lake Geneva City Council
